Between Two Plates: Pedro Rebelo and Michael Alcorn

The installation is an interplay between physical and imagined space. The space between Belfast and Limerick is articulated through two resonant metal plates which act as a way of inviting local interaction and at the same time rendering remote presence. The plates are notionally two nodes in a large resonant network; exchanges, connections, disruptions, loops are heard through the vibrating plates. As visitors are enticed to touch the plates, they become an interface which is both localised in its interactions with the site and dispersed in their role as network nodes.
The installation consists of two suspended metal plates (approximately 4m high by 1m wide) fitted with two active speaker drivers and two contact microphones. An audio feedback loop modulated through a computer runs over the network as 4 channels of audio.
